Georgi Ivanov Markov was a Bulgarian dissident writer during the time of the cold war where Bulgaria was communist.
No, he's not an umbrella assassin, but rather, a victim of this secret assassination method. One fine day as he was waiting for a bus, he felt a poke from his thigh and that's when he saw a man pick up an umbrella. 3 days later, Georgi was dead.
During the time of his death, he was working for the Radio Free Europe which is basically a radio station that broadcasts news to places where news are censored. Bulgaria was one of them, and Georgi often criticize the then Bulgarian, president Todor Zhivkov. It was speculated that this president has ordered an espionage to put him down.
